Welcome Party at Qannotta Castle

Qannotta Castle, built by Grand Master Perellos, a Spanish knight of Aragon who served as the 64th Prince and Grand Master of the Order of Malta from 1697 until his death.
Perellós dedicated many of his efforts to stop the attacks at sea by Ottoman pirates, who would sail along the coasts of Spain and Italy to plunder merchant ships and enslave civilians. Using old galleys, together with the might of a vessel armed with 80 cannons, he waged war at sea against the pirates.
The castle has passed through the Sant Cassia family and is now their winter home following a huge 7 year restoration project. It overlooks the beautiful Wardija valley, and has its own chapel.
